SofTest Mac OS X Installation

10.9 (Mavericks), 10.10 (Yosemite), 10.11 (El Capitan), and 10.12 (Sierra)

Click 'Download SofTest Mac'. Click 'Save File' when prompted to do so. Double-Click on 'SofTestMac.dmg' in the 'Downloads' window once the download is complete. Click on 'Install SofTest' and follow the on-screen instructions. Register your copy using the ID and password. Download Chrome for Mac. For Mac OS X 10.10 or later. This computer will no longer receive Google Chrome updates because Mac OS X 10.6 - 10.9 are no longer supported.

Mac Requirements: In order to use SofTest on your Apple Macbook or Macbook Pro natively, you must have:

  • CPU = Intel processor
  • RAM = 2 GB
  • Hard Drive = at least 1 GB or higher free disk space
  • Operating System = MAC 10.9 (Mavericks),10.10 (Yosemite), 10.11 (El Capitan), or 10.12 (Sierra) — SofTest cannot be installed on 10.4 (Tiger), 10.5 (Leopard), 10.6 (Snow Leopard), 10.7 (Lion), or 10.8 (Mountain Lion) .
  • Software = Internet connection for downloading/uploading exams
  • Administrator level account permissions

Internet Browsers: You can only download SofTest using Firefox or Google Chrome.

You will need your username and password. Don’t remember username and password? Log into http://www.sc.edu/studentemail/ (choose Columbia campus) and look for the email from the Law Registrar regarding SofTest Installation and Registration.

  1. Access website, www.examsoft.com/sclaw. This will take you to the USC School of Law — Custom Home Page screen.
  2. In the Exam Takers box enter your username/password.
  3. If you would like to change your password once you have logged in, hover the mouse over your name located in the upper right corner of the screen. Choose “My Account”. You cannot change your username or email address.
  4. After changing your password, click update information
  5. Click — SofTest (located in the black bar).
  6. Click Download SofTest.
  7. Click the newly downloaded file from your Downloads folder.
  8. Download window appears. ExamSoft box appears with two icons — Install SofTest or Uninstaller. Click on Install SofTest. SofTest cannot be installed on 10.4 (Tiger), 10.5 (Leopard) or 10.6 (Snow Leopard).
      • If using Mountain Lion OS and message appears — “Install SofTest.mkgp” can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer. Click Close.
      • To override your security settings, press the control-key and right click the app. Choose open from the pop-up menu.
      • “Install SofTest.mkgp” message appears — Are you sure you want to open it? Click Open.
  9. SofTest Installer window appears.
  10. Follow prompts:
    Click continue. License Agreement — click continue. Choose agree. Destination Select/Installation type — choose Install. Installation Type — choose Install. (Installation will begin).
  11. Summary appears — Installation was successful. Choose close.
    SofTest Message appears — Old Exams Present — Please note that you will not be able to take older exams on this version of SofTest. Click Ok.
  12. SofTest window appears – Enter sclaw for Institution ID. In the next window, enter your username/password; note if you changed your password, you will be entering your new password- click register.
  13. Important: You have exam files available for download. Select Yes below to download now. To download later, open SofTest then click on Download Exams. Click Done.
    Message appears — Congratulations! SofTest has registered your computer. You can now use this computer to take exams.
  14. At this point, you should receive an email to your university email account confirming your SofTest registration from support@examsoft.com. This email is for your records.
  15. The SofTest window will appear. (If the window does not appear, click on the SofTest icon located in your Finder.) It is automatically defaulted to the Available Exams tab. Exam files will appear in this window. Highlight your exam files and choose download. Course(s) will disappear from list once downloaded.
  16. A message will appear saying you have successfully downloaded your exam file(s). Click — OK.
  17. Click Downloaded Exams tab to verify that all exam files have been downloaded.
  18. Click done.
